Grammys 2010

The Grammys are an annual celebration for me. I do have a love/hate relationship with the Grammy choices over the years. (Dancing on the Ceiling vs. Purple Rain?!? Graceland over Control?!? JETHRO TULL?!?) So I spend the night tense and frustrated depending on the choices the Grammy voters make. Looks like tonight will be a performance night, which is a good thing.

Lady Gaga/Elton John
Pokerface/Speechless

Lady Gaga can really do no wrong. She was simply amazing. You can't help but to watch her performances and when she rolled out with Sir Elton for Speechless, I thought the audience was gonna lose their collective minds. Brilliant.

Stephen Colbert
Not bad. Funnyish filler. You either get him or you don't.

1st award - Single Ladies (Song of the Year)
Get over it. It was a great song and you sang it all last year. It was a cultural phenomenon.

Green Day and cast of American Idiot
21 Guns
Pretty Good

2nd award - Best Country Album - Fearless - Taylor Swift
Wow. Pop and Country collided and created a wonderful collection of songs.

Beyonce - If I Were a Boy/You Oughta Know
Hair flipping aside, Beyonce is an AMAZING performer. This was fucking awesome.

P!nk - Glitter in the Air
Beautiful, beautiful song. OMFG!!!!
She did an awesome aerial performance and Kelly Clarkson tweeted it best: The bar for live performance has been raised.

3rd award - Best New Artists - Zac Brown Band
Honestly don't know anything about them. Congrats.

The Black Eyed Peas - Imma Be/I Gotta Feelin'
Nice performance, but after the first performances, kinda lackluster.

Lady Antebellum - I Need You Now
Pretty song. I need to find this album.

Best Comedy Album - Stephen Colbert
Nice win. Better camera on the losers (esp. Kathy Griffin)

Record of the Year - Use Somebody - Kings of Leon
Wow...kinda shocking, but it was a catchy song. Should it have been beaten a couple of the other ladies? I don't know.

Jamie Foxx, T-Pain, Doug E. Fresh, Shy, Slash - Blame it on the Alcohol
I love my baby, but he just looked at me and asked me who George Clinton was. REALLY?!?
Well, if you can't outsing 'em, overload the stage with talent.

Best Rock Album - Green Day - 21st Century Breakdown
Not usually my category, so again, congrats.

The Zac Brown Band/Leon Russell - America the Beautiful/A Mother's Love?!?
Honestly, we fast forward through the honkytonk stuff.

Taylor Swift/Stevie Nicks - Today Was a Fairytale/Rihanna/You Belong With Me
Better than most of Taylor's live performances, but did Stevie Nicks lose a bet?

Tribute to Michael Jackson with Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson with Michael - Earth Song in 3D
Kinda incredible so much talent brought together for the tribute. And Carrie Underwood sounded ridiculous good!
The kids!!! Prince did his speech well. Stop Paris from speaking until she's comfortable.

Bon Jovi w/Jennifer Nettles- We Weren't Born To Follow/Who Said You Can't Go Home?/Livin' On A Prayer
Wonderful job. Rock performances often just seem like live versions of the CD and not visually captivating. Sadly, this set wasn't as exciting as it could've been.

Best Rap/Sung Collaboration - We Run This Town - Jay-z and Rihanna w/Kanye West
Not a shock.

Andrea Bocelli & Mary J. Blige - Like a Bridge Over Troubled Water (for the victims of Haitian earthquake)
Beautifully done. Never forget how good Mary J. is.

The Dave Matthews Band - You and Me
Fun and joyous.

Best Female Vocal - Halo
Kinda inevitable, but I really woulda loved to see P!nk win one. Still, it was an amazing vocal.

Maxwell and Roberta Flack - Pretty Wings/Where is the Love?
Pretty performance, made more lovely when Roberta arrived

WTF is on Lady Gaga's head???

Jeff Beck Jazz quintet - How High The Moon
Fun tribute to Les Paul

Drake, Eminem, Lil Wayne w/Travis Barker -
Why invite rap artists to perform and greenlight the song choice if you're gonna 5 second delay the HELL out of it.

Album of the Year - Taylor Swift - Fearless
W.
T.
F.
I appreciate that she is truly honored to win and imma let you finish, but Lady Gaga had a more balanced CD lasy year and Beyonce had the best video of all times!!
